Mr Keene Carlvin Mmusi

Keene Mmusi is a Junior Lecturer teaching Chemistry in the Faculty of Engineering-Applied Sciences Department in Botho University, Gaborone. Mmusi is a  knowledgeable Chemist with a keen interest in Material Science and Chemical Analysis applied to various sample matrices including Environmental Samples.

His masters degree was focused on Renewable Energy based on the Production of Bio-diesel from Natural Oils and he is a PhD. candidate at Botswana International University of Science and  Technology (BIUST).Mmusi research is on “Synthesis and Characterization of Polypyridyl Ruthenium Complexes as Sensitizers in Solar Energy Production”.

Research Done:

  • An investigation on Metal Contents from Non-Edible Plant Parts of Morula, Mango and Moringa Oleifera Seed Pods. The analytical instruments I used were Flame Atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS), inductively coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) for a project.
  • A research project analysing Glen valley farm soils and produce for heavy metals from waste water. I used Microwave plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (MP-AES) for analysis.
  • A project on reuse of sclerocarya birrea (morula) nutshell as sorbents for heavy metal removal from synthetic heavy metal waste water sample, used various analytical instruments such as Flame Atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS), inductively coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy (ICP-0ES) and Scanning electron microscope- Elemental Dispersion X-ray (SEM-EDX).
  • My Masters degree project was focused in Investigating the Production of Biodiesel from Schinzionphyton rautanenii (Manketti) nut oil using CaO Nanoparticles and Eggshells Ash as catalyst. I have used various analytical instruments for analysis such as Gas-Chromatography (GC-MS), Scanning Electron Microscope- Elemental Dispersion X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for analysis.
