‘Get IT Certified’ Workshop
The Department of Professional Development under the Faculty of Education & Continuing Studies in collaboration with Career Services Department hosted an event dubbed ‘Get IT Certified’ workshop to sensitize students and alumni of Botho University on the importance of ICT certifications. The event was held on the 13th of February 2014 and drew together IT industry experts and vendor representatives to shed some light on various certifications available and the foreseeable monetary and employment advantages of owning one. The event was graced by Mr. Wayne Petje, a representative of Oracle, Mr. Norman Sebonego, from ICDL and Mr. Billy Batlegang, HOD-Professional Development Department. There is a wide range of certifications that IT professionals
can pursue such as ICDL, Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, CCNA , CompTIA A+ , CompTIA N+ and many more. It is a very important factor for employers when considering criteria for hiring graduates as a Bachelors degree alone does not put employment candidates at the forefront of the race. The advantage with owning a certification is that it validates the skills of the recipient to the employer, said Mr. Norman Sebonego from ICDL.
Students and Alumni are encouraged to visit the Professional Development Department in the Faculty of Education and Continuing Studies to learn more about the available certifications and prepare to gain advantage over other graduates.
