As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, BU donated sanitary towels to girls at Mampota High School on the 6th February 2019. This marks the third donation to Mampota High School. Representing the University Mrs Mankhole Masisi-Thakhisi said BU in collaboration with Hlokomela Banana an initiative by Her Majesty the Queen,supports a girl child in making sure that no girl misses classes simply because of their monthly natural cycle. Currently BU supports five schools in five districts with sanitary towels every quarter of the year.

Botho University to strengthen its collaboration with UNIVEN

BU is set to further strengthen its existing collaboration with the University of Venda in South Africa following a successful engagement with a UNIVEN delegation led by Senior Professor George Ekosse on the 4th February, 2019. The BU team was led by Prof Peter Mbati, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor - Academics and Quality and included Deans of Faculties and staff from the Library, Teaching and Research Excellence department (LTRE). The engagement was mainly focused on importance of collaboration and the ability to share resources between the two parties. The forum identified specific research thematic areas from both universities that will form the nucleus for further development of collaborative research projects between staff and students at Univen and BU.

Faculty Of Hospitality And Sustainable Tourism Hosts Customer Excellence Service Public Lecture

On the 30th January 2019, the faculty of Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism successfully held its first public lecture under the theme “Customer Service Excellence”. The lecture attracted the attendance of students, academics and industry professionals. The presenter was Dr Oliver Chikuta, Executive Dean of the School of Hospitality And Tourism at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe who is in BU on a knowledge exchange visit for a month. During his lecture, he highlighted that Botswana’s Global Competitiveness rankings have been observed to be on a downward trajectory in recent years of which issues of service excellence were contributing factors. He therefore advised on taking a holistic approach towards delivering quality experiences across the entire tourism value chain.

Prof. Georges Ekosse speaks to BU community on “Learning from Research Giants of Yester-years”  

Botho University recently hosted a senior professor from the University of Venda and its Director Research and Innovation, Georges Ekosse for its first 2019 Research Excellence Talk. Prof. Ekosse’s presentation on “Learning from Research Giants of Yester-years” was particularly important in stimulating Botho staff and students to emulate the commitment, zeal and sacrifice made by these giants in creating a better life for humanity with citing the works of Sir Isaac Newton, George Washington, Graham Bell, Alfred Nobel, Marie Curie, Jane C. Wright and many others. He further demonstrated how impactful research can have positive effects on a number of “Impact Zones”, mainly Teaching and Learning, Practice, Public Policy, Economy, Society and Environment and Knowledge.
