  •  Will I be provided accommodation at Botho University as an international student? For international students applying to study in Botswana: International Students to our Campus in Botswana have the option of staying at our student accommodation. Botho University is committed to providing international students safe and clean and comfortable accommodation. The institution is currently able to provide accommodation to a very limited number of students on first-come, first-serve basis. The University has taken up a residential complex comprising of two bedroom houses to cater for the accommodation requirements of those who may apply for the same. There is 24-hour power and water supply provided. The rooms are provided on a sharing basis with other students to enable cross-cultural learning. Each room is furnished with a table, chair, a built in cupboard and single bed. There is limited access to internet facilities at the student accommodation and occupants are encouraged to utilise the internet facilities on campus. The occupant is expected to bring his or her own mattress, pillows and sheets for personal hygiene requirements. There is a kitchen, which the occupants of each house are expected to share. The kitchens are furnished with a gas stove and connection for basic cooking; no utensils are provided. There is a warden for the student accommodation for general administration and welfare of occupants. There is also a 24-hour security guard to ensure that the occupants feel safe and secure at all times. To apply for student accommodation, please enquire with the Admissions department at the time of application.

         For International Students studying to apply in Lesotho:

         Botho University currently does not offer student accommodation in Lesotho.

  •  What is the mode of transport available locally?

For international students in Botswana: Mini vans called “combis” are the most common mode of transport for the public. These are very reasonably priced and are quite frequent on all the common routes. There are also cab services available which need to be booked and can be much more expensive. Buses are available for long distance travel. On arrival, the Student and Alumni Affairs Department can assist international students with the common routes and information required for their day to day transport to campus.

            English is the main language of instruction at all Botho University campuses.

Are international students provided any welcome on their arrival in the country?

Depending on the mode of travel (whether air/road), international students can arrange beforehand by sending an email to the Student and Alumni Affairs Department for being received on their arrival. Once an international student is successfully enrolled, the Admissions department can provide the contact information for the Student and Alumni Affairs Department (SAAD) representative who can assist with all these arrangements.

What is the local currency?

For Botswana: The currency is called Botswana Pula (BWP). 1 USD = 11 BWP (approx.)
For Lesotho: The currency is called Lesotho Maloti (LSL). 1 USD = 15 LSL (approx.)

Can international students get sim cards and cellphone airtime on arrival?

All airports have local cell phone providers that provide you with information and easy cellphone airtime packages and sim cards. Local shops and road side vendors also provide Sim cards and airtime packages for easy recharge.

Do International Students receive an orientation on arrival to campus?

The Student and Alumni Affairs Department (SAAD) is responsible for welcome and general welfare of international students at any Botho University campus. The SAAD representative will contact you and organise for an orientation, campus tour and answer any queries you may have. On arrival at campus, you can also drop into the SAAD office and seek help in person. SAAD also organises an International Students Open day where the relevant embassies, consulates and other important stakeholders are also invited to welcome and brief our international students on local regulations, services and facilities available to them.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an elected body of student leaders whose day to day mandate is to represent the interests of students according to the dictates of the SRC constitution. The Botho University SRC currently has 11 Ministers headed by the SRC President deputised by the Vice President. Current ministries include: Secretary General, Admin Secretary, Minister of Public Relations, Minister of Academic Affairs, Minister of Sports,Culture and Recreation, Minister of Entertainment, Minister of Finance, Minister of Gender and Social Welfare and Minister of Justice and Infrastructure

SRC at Botho University is responsible for organising all student activities with the support of the Students Services Department - the department are divided into two - Placement, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department (PIED) and Student Life and Outreach Department (SLOD)

The SRC at Botho University is responsible for organising all student activities with the support of the Students Services Department. In the SRC is also the Chief-Election Officer responsible for the running of all Botho University students’ elections. The SRC also, working with the Students Services Department, is responsible for coming up with the students activitiy calendar (SRC events calendar) for each year as well as the implementation programes tabled in the calendar.

Other activities which the SRC organises include Fresher's Ball, Welcome Bash and Mr. and Miss Botho University, clubs, community development activities, internal sports, Independence celebration, sponsored walks. SRC is also involved in the Staff-Students Consultative Committee (SSCC) responsible for building a working relationship between staff and students in improving the quality of education at Botho University.
